James V. Salmon took the upper photograph on Feb. 8, 1957. At the time, there was nothing but fields around and behind the Zion Church (Don Mills Road, which intersects Finch just a few dozen yards to the left of the bottom shot, didn't even come this far north till circa 1970). By the time I was seeing it on a daily basis, from 2000-2010, it was surrounded by malls, plazas, apartment buildings, and a campus of Seneca College. My panorama on the bottom was taken over 50 years later, on Dec. 27, 2009.
