Mulroney deux

So there it is... as predicted by yours truly (among others) last fall, a Tory government supported by Quebec separatists. Just imagine the cheque Canada's ass now has to cash. Anybody else here old enough to remember the last time? Mulroney's Quebec base was "soft" nationalists, too... and when he promised them the fillings out of the country's collective teeth and we refused to sit still in the chair, they screamed "humiliation!" and plunged us (and our dollar) into years of uncertainty and referendum. Relatedly, I'm also hearing Harper wants to open that same old Pandora's Box of constitutional reform. Pardon my French here, but... are Conservatives all fucked in the head? What, are they slightly lobotomized at birth or something? They seem utterly incapable of projecting the likely, or even plausible, outcomes of their actions (beyond the expectation of applause and copious ass-kissing), even in the light of recent — very recent — history! This country labours under a strange curse... intractable narcissistic xenophobia perennially catered to by stupidity born of an addiction to the fleeting orgasms of power.

Hmm, well I don't know about Canadian conservatives, but here in the USA, yeah, I'd say your assessment is correct.

Canadian conservatives...they'd be moderate middle of the road American policitians, eh? :)
